New Area Codes and effective starting dates: ______________________________________________________ 360 Effective January 15, 1995 Washington State • the 206 area code has been reduced to the Seattle/ Everett/Tacoma region. ______________________________________________________ 970 Effective April 2, 1995 Colorado • at that time the 303 area code will be reduced to the Denver metropolitan area. ______________________________________________________ 520 Effective March 19, 1995 Arizona • at that time the 602 area code will be reduced to the Phoenix metropolitan area. ______________________________________________________ 905 Effective now. • Ontario, Canada Also, note that for communities surrounding metropolitan Toronto, postal codes starting with an "M" are using the 416 area code, postal codes starting with any other letters are in the 905 area code. (This went into effect in October 1993, but was overlooked, and finally pointed out by a kind user.) ______________________________________________________ 281 Effective March 1, 1995 Texas • it will be used for cellular phones and pagers in the 713 area code. ______________________________________________________ 334 Effective January 15, 1995 Alabama • the 205 area code has been reduced to the Birmingham area and Northern Alabama. ______________________________________________________ 540 Effective July 15, 1995 Virginia • at that time the 703 area code will be reduced to the Arlington Virginia region of the Washington DC metropolitan area. ______________________________________________________ 941 Effective May 28, 1995 Florida • at that time the 813 area code will be reduced to the Tampa St. Pete metropolitan area. ______________________________________________________ 954 Effective March ??, 1995 Florida• at that time the 305 area code region will be assigned the 954 area code to support wireless communications devices such as modems, cellular phones, beepers, wireless faxes, and others that won't use a phone jack. ______________________________________________________ See additional documentation in the AreaCodeFinder package for 1996 Codes.
