  1. New Area Codes and effective starting dates:

  3. 360 Effective January 15, 1995 
  4. Washington State • the 206 area code has been reduced to the Seattle/
  5. Everett/Tacoma region.
  6. ______________________________________________________
  7. 970 Effective April 2, 1995
  8. Colorado • at that time the 303 area code will be reduced to the Denver
  9. metropolitan area.
  10. ______________________________________________________
  11. 520 Effective March 19, 1995
  12. Arizona • at that time the 602 area code will be reduced to the Phoenix
  13. metropolitan area.
  14. ______________________________________________________
  15. 905 Effective now.

  17. Also, note that for communities surrounding metropolitan Toronto, postal 
  18. codes starting with an "M" are using the 416 area code, postal codes starting
  19.  with any other letters are in the 905 area code.
  20. (This went into effect in October 1993, but was overlooked, and finally
  21. pointed out by a kind user.)

  24. Texas • it will be used for cellular phones and pagers in the 713 area code.

  27. Alabama • the 205 area code has been reduced to the Birmingham area and 
  28. Northern Alabama.

  30. 540 Effective July 15, 1995
  31. Virginia • at that time the 703 area code will be reduced to the Arlington
  32. Virginia region of the Washington DC metropolitan area.

  34. 941 Effective May 28, 1995
  35. Florida • at that time the 813 area code will be reduced to the Tampa St.
  36. Pete metropolitan area.

  38. 954 Effective March ??, 1995
  39. Florida• at that time the 305 area code region will be assigned the 954 area code to support wireless communications devices such as modems, cellular phones, beepers, wireless faxes, and others that won't use a phone jack.
